“A catastrophic and disastrous year on forests, this is what can be said about the year 2007. The Internal Security forces (ISF) recorded a total of 275 fires till 25/10/2007which is equal to 4,031 ha, an increase of 360% compared to the previous year.” (Ministry of Environment, November 2007.)
Baabda Forest is the only natural green area in greater Beirut, rich in its biodiversity and can be visited all year through. There, we can find more than 20 types of trees and small trees and hundreds of wild flowers in addition to 189 species of Lebanese birds’ variety (50% of the total number of species of birds in Lebanon). The location of the forest is very critical since it is very close to the city and encounters on daily basis human activities such as hazardous picking of medicinal plants, dumping of wastes, fires, trees cutting and uncontrolled hunting… The sustainable development project of Baabda Forest can be achieved through your contribution in our campaign: “$1 PAYED = 1m2 SAVED”. Be part of this change for the sake of our future generations and in order to save the remaining natural heritage and biodiversity of Lebanon. |
