Lebanon has always been know as the "cedars' country".
Nowadays, it is moving more and more towards desertification due to uncontrolled construction, air pollution, forest fires... which contributes to climate change.
Therefore, it is important to organize concrete activities and reforest Lebanon in collaboration with all municipalities within the Lebanese territory.
T.E.R.R.E. Liban would like to reforest Lebanon though Abou Zreik campaign which is considered as a concrete activity within the "Lebanese Ecocitizenship" project.
This operation consists of initiating citizens to reforest Lebanon while planting Lebanese native species of trees and therefore combat desertification and stop climate change.

The jay is a Lebanese bird that lives on oak trees. He collects glands in autumn and hides them outside the forest as a provision for the winter season. The glands that won't be found will grow and become trees.
|
Following the example of the oak's jay, children will prepare seeds and plant them in Lebanon's forests
The application of Abou Zreik campaign is very easy:
•1- Pick seeds during the autumn season from trees and shrubs present in the nearest forest where you wish to plant the trees.
•2- Dry seeds during three weeks far from direct sunlight.
•3- Plant seed during the winter season. The height of the sand that covers the seeds must be equal to their size.
•4- Protect small bunches from fires and scrubs.
•5- Irrigate the small bunches once during the first summer month.
Abou Zreik - the best reforestation mean:
•- Everyone can participate.
•- Very easy to adopt.
•- Non-costly, we need neither gardening utensils nor continuous irrigation.
•- It allows reforesting critical placement and hard slopes.
•- It is easy to carry a big quantity of seeds to the highest peaks and lowest valleys.
•- It permits to protect biodiversity in burnt forests or arid mountains.
•- It allows to plant seeds of wild species that cannot be found in nurseries.
•- It guarantees the seeds grown up which can easily adapt to their environment more than trees that come from nursery and are used to a different environment form the one found in the forest.
•- It restores the link between man and nature once people participate in reforestation; the principal cause of green spaces loss is due to remoteness regarding nature: man is no more in contact with nature.
